The site is irregular in shape and extends to 2.055 hectares (5.08 acres) and is occupied by clusters of school buildings.

The site is anchored by the landmark Grade 2 Listed main school building (the main building) and is supported by numerous ancillary buildings of varying age, size and construction. Playing fields are located to the rear of the buildings along the northern and eastern boundaries.

Residential dwellings abut the site on the north and east sides comprising a mix of 2/3 storey Victorian period terraces and more modern 2 storey housing built within the last 20 years, respectively. Adjacent to the southern boundary of the site is Dog Kennel Path which lies within the grounds of Grove House Gardens whilst the western boundary of the site abuts High Street North.
